EGW Evolved 1911 Sear Spring – Improved Design for Better Trigger Performance
The EGW Evolved 1911 Sear Spring is the result of years of experience, testing, and design improvements. With more than 30 years in the 1911 market, EGW understands the common problems that can affect trigger performance. Therefore, we went back to the drawing board and developed a sear spring that addresses these issues.
At EGW, we believe good designs can always get better. That is why we call this spring Evolved. We improved key areas of the original design to help provide better contact, reduce unnecessary weight, and deliver a smoother, crisper trigger pull.
Best of all, the EGW Evolved Sear Spring fits both 1911 and 2011 pistols.
Why Choose the EGW Evolved 1911 Sear Spring?
Improved Fit for Out-of-Spec Frames
Some 1911 frames have a sear spring slot that sits lower than the intended specification. As a result, the sear spring may not fully engage the sear. Unfortunately, many standard sear springs lack enough length to correct this issue.
To address this problem, EGW redesigned the spring and extended the left finger by more than .030 inches. This added length helps accommodate frames with lower-than-standard sear spring slots. Consequently, the spring can provide better engagement in applications where a standard spring may fall short.
Refined Design for Better Performance
EGW also redesigned several key areas to reduce unnecessary weight and improve spring movement. Each change serves a purpose, from reducing contact with the frame to refining the spring’s contact surfaces.
Here is a closer look at the improvements shown in the product image.
EGW Evolved Sear Spring Design Details
Detail A – Frame Clearance Relief Cut
The left side of the spring features a relief cut that allows it to move without rubbing against the frame. As a result, the spring can move more freely and help promote a smoother, crisper trigger pull.
Detail B – Reduced Sear Pad Weight
The sear pad on the left leaf is less than half the size and weight of those found on many other sear springs. This reduced mass limits the amount of weight available for recoil and inertia to act upon. Therefore, the design helps reduce unwanted movement caused by these forces.

Detail C – Narrower Center and Right Leaves
The center and right leaves are 5% narrower than those on conventional designs. This change reduces unnecessary material and weight. At the same time, the refined design helps improve the feel of the spring.
Detail D – Smaller Disconnector Pad
The center leaf features a smaller disconnector pad. This change reduces weight while retaining the standard contact area needed for proper function. As a result, EGW reduces unnecessary mass without abandoning the intended contact design.

Built on More Than 30 Years of 1911 Experience
EGW developed the Evolved 1911 Sear Spring to address common design limitations and improve upon the traditional sear spring. Instead of simply copying an existing design, we examined the areas that could work better and made targeted improvements.
Whether you are building a custom pistol or replacing an existing component, this spring offers a refined design for compatible 1911 and 2011 platforms.
Important Finish Information
EGW does not glass bead or sandblast the sear springs after heat treatment. Therefore, the finished spring may have a spotty or uneven appearance.
Please note: This appearance is a normal result of the heat-treatment process. It is not rust, and it does not affect the spring’s performance.
