The EGW HD Ambi Thumb Safety offers a strong, reliable upgrade for any serious 1911 shooter. Many cast or MIM safeties fail under stress, so EGW chose a different path. They machine this ambi safety from solid, heat-treated stainless steel to create a cleaner, tougher, and more precise design.

Strong, Precision-Machined Construction

Both paddles start as solid blocks of hardened steel, then EGW machines them to final shape. This process keeps the safeties straight, durable, and consistent. The serrated paddles give you a firm, positive grip during operation.

Reinforced Ambi System

EGW includes a special hammer pin sized for standard .750 1911 frames, plus an optional .765 pin for 2011-style frames. The hammer pin also acts as the down stop for the right-side paddle.
Next, EGW machines the hammer pins, the shortened flat-head .110 sear pin, and their patent-pending sleeve on Swiss screw machines for maximum precision.

The ambi joint uses a flat, machined interface—never a tapered fit. Tapered joints loosen over time, while this design stays tight and reliable. The internal sleeve connects both paddles inside the frame tangs. Your grip safety then rides smoothly on the round sleeve without interference.

This sleeve also prevents the thumb safety from spreading apart where the two sides meet. It increases strength, reduces flex, and improves long-term durability.

Additional Design Advantages

EGW machines a radius down-stop on the left-side safety lug. This provides a cleaner, more solid contact point than the sharp points found on many safeties. A T-slot on the right side also prevents the safety from walking outward during use.
And because of the refined geometry, you don’t need to modify your right-side grip panel.

Fitment Notes

This 1911 ambi safety requires fitting—it is not a drop-in part. It works with standard 1911 frames, but it will not fit 2011 or other high-capacity frames unless you use the longer hammer pin or countersink the pin head to match the frame width.
