EGW 1911 Firing Pin – .066″ Tip Diameter
The EGW 1911 Firing Pin with a .066″ tip diameter delivers precise ignition and improved reliability for serious shooters and builders. EGW machines this firing pin to exact dimensions, holding tight tolerances that help eliminate primer flow and primer shear—two common causes of light strikes and misfires in 1911 pistols.
Unlike extra-long firing pins, this model measures a correct 2.260″ overall length. Because of this, it fits the slide properly and maintains consistent firing pin protrusion. As a result, ignition stays reliable even when running hotter loads in match or defensive pistols.
EGW designs these firing pins to fit slide firing pin holes within .001″. This tight fit matters. Under recoil, especially with hotter ammunition, primer material can flow back around an undersized firing pin. When the barrel unlocks, that flowing primer material can shear and bind the firing pin. By reducing this clearance, EGW helps prevent primer drag, firing pin blockage, and misfires.
Additionally, many manufacturers now use smaller firing pins in .45 ACP pistols to increase reliability and reduce primer-related issues. This .066″ tip follows that modern approach while maintaining compatibility with properly sized slides.
